Zeolites are aluminosilicate green colored powder that are mined from natural deposits or synthesized from other clay minerals. Zeolite serves multiple functions in water treatment, like removing ammonium ions via ion-exchange, purifying water conditions etc. In aquaculture practice, Zeolite can be used along with beneficial bacteria in order to remove ammonium cations more efficiently.

Zeolite should be placed in between mechanical filter and biological filter as Zeolite is able to capture particles before reaching biological filters.
Zeolite needs to be replaced periodically since its absorption capacity decreases over time.
