* Barleans Omega 3 is a fat-regulating (antilipemic) nutraceutical that is used in addition to diet to reduce triglyceride (TG, a fat-carrying particle in the blood) levels in adult patients with severe elevations in blood levels of TG (≥mg/dL).

* Using an innovative extraction method called ethyl esters, the concentration of the omega-3 long chain fatty acids is extracted at lower temperatures. This process (molecular distillation) allows for the selective concentration of EPA and DHA to levels greater than that found naturally in fish. The resulting ethyl ester concentrate of EPA and DHA is subsequently marketed and sold as “fish oil concentrate”.

* TG is composed of three fatty acids as well as glycerol. Like cholesterol, comes from either the diet or the liver. High levels of TG in the blood are associated with conditions such as obesity, insulin resistance, poorly controlled diabetes mellitus amongst others that contribute to the risk of atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries (progressive build up of waxy plaque on the inside of blood vessels) responsible for coronary artery disease (angina and heart attacks) and strokes.

* Each 1200mg capsule of Barleans (omega-3 acid ethyl esters) contains at least 780 mg of the ethyl esters of omega-3 fatty acids. These are predominantly a combination of ethyl esters of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA – approximately 432mg) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA – approximately 288 mg).
