Agaricus blazei Murill (Hime Matsutake)
Agaricus blazei Murill, also known as Brazilian mushroom, Himematsutake, or Agaricus brasiliensis, is often referred to as the "King of Mushrooms." It originates from Brazil, Peru, and parts of the United States, particularly in the coastal grasslands of Southern California and Florida. This mushroom grows in soil and is surrounded by various microorganisms, making it susceptible to contamination before it fully matures, which makes cultivation challenging.
Health Benefits of Agaricus blazei
In 1980, researchers such as China Tetsuro Ikegami from the Japanese Cancer Research Center and Shoji Shibata from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Tokyo conducted extensive studies on the pharmacological effects of Agaricus blazei fruiting bodies. They reported that it has immune-boosting, antiviral, and hematopoietic (blood-forming) properties. One of the most remarkable findings was that polysaccharides in Agaricus blazei exhibited inhibitory effects on HIV, the virus responsible for AIDS.
Agaricus blazei contains the highest amount of polysaccharides among mushrooms, particularly mannan (a type of polysaccharide), which has been found to have potent anti-tumor effects (especially against ), aid in the treatment of hemorrhoids and fistulas, boost energy, and help prevent cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, studi-es suggest that Agaricus blazei can help restore bone marrow function by promoting the proliferation of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells and improving microcirculation in the bone marrow.
