Fast-blow fuses usually have a thin wire while slow-blow fuses usually have a bead on the wire, or a thicker, coiled wire.
You should never substitute a slow-blow fuse for a fast-blow fuse or vice versa.
Dimension: 5mm x 20mm, 6mm x 30mm
Low Breaking Capacity (L)
1. There are so many types of fuse, I just want to change my broken fuse, how do I select?
- First of all, determine if it is ceramic or glass fuse.
- Glass is transparent (you can see the wire inside), Ceramic is not transparent (usually white).
- Secondly, determine if it is fast blow of slow blow.
- Fast Blow fuse is indicated by the word "F" on the fuse (e.g.: F5AL 250V).
- Slow Blow fuse is indicated by the word "T" on the fuse (e.g.: T5AL 250V).
- If it is a Glass Slow Blow Fuse, you can usually see a bead or coil inside.
- Thirdly, determine the current rating of the fuse.
- Usually indicated along side other specs (e.g.: F5AL 250V is rated for 5A).
- Lastly, determine the size of the fuse.
- It is usually 5mm x 20mm, or 6mm x 30mm.
- If it is 6mm x 25mm, it is a Plug Top Fuse.
2. How do I choose between ceramic fuse and glass fuse?
- Glass Fuses offers the ability to physically see if the filament is damaged.
- Ceramic Fuses are most robust and less prone to breaking as compared to glass fuses, but you are not able to see the filament inside to gauge if it is damaged.
3. Can I switch between one another?
- With all specifications and safety ratings the same you should be able to go from glass to ceramic, but it is not recommended to replace ceramic with glass.
- If possible, it is best to not switch at all, and stick back to the existing type of fuse.
