The Otovent autoinflation device is a clinically proven*, safe and natural treatment to relieve the symptoms of glue ear without drugs or surgery. Otovent is suitable for both adults and children. It uses a specially pressurised balloon to open the eustachian tube. For those suffering with glue ear this allows the sticky fluid associated with the condition to safely drain away.
Affecting 80% of children at least once before their 10th birthday, Otitis Media with Effusion or Glue Ear dulls hearing meaning children's’ school work and social life can suffer. Otovent is the only drug-free and non-surgical clinically proven treatment for glue ear.
It's estimated that ⅓ of all people suffering from Glue Ear are sixteen years of age or above. Otovent is also suitable as a Glue Ear treatment for people suffering with Eustachian Tube Dysfunction.
Connect the balloon to the nose piece and hold the rounded end against the right nostril. Press the left nostril closed with your other hand. Inhale deeply, close your mouth and inflate the balloon via your nose until it is approximately the size of a grapefruit. Repeat this procedure with the left nostril. The patient should feel a pressure increase and or a ‘click’ in their ear to indicate that the treatment is working.
The Otovent balloons contain latex. If you are allergic to latex or latex products consult your GP before using the product. If you experience allergic symptoms of any kind, stop treatment and consult your physician.
Keep out of reach of children. The treatment of children must always be supervised by an adult. Toy balloons should never be used in performing the Otovent method as they do not give the proper inflation pressure and may cause treatment failure.
