Product description
Peony (scientific name: Paeonia suffruticosa Andr.): Dicotyledonous plants, Paeoniaceae, and Paeonia plants. It is a perennial deciduous shrub with a stem up to 2 meters; branches are short and thick. The leaves are usually two and three compound leaves, the surface is green, glabrous, and the underside is light green, sometimes with white powder, the petiole is 5-11 cm long, and the leaf shafts are glabrous. Flower solitary branch top, bract 5, oblong; sepal 5, green, broad ovate, petals 5 or double petals, rose, reddish purple, pink to white, usually very variable, obovate, top is not Regularly wavy; anthers oblong, 4 mm long; discs leathery, cup-shaped, purple-red; carpel 5, densely pilose. The follicles are oblong, densely bristled with yellowish-brown bristles. Flowering in May; fruiting period in June.
The flower color is gorgeous, the jade smiles and the beads are fragrant. In the cultivation type, it can be divided into hundreds of varieties mainly according to the color of the flowers. There are many varieties of peony, with many colors. The top grades are yellow, green, flesh red, deep red, and silver red, especially yellow and green. The peony is big and fragrant, so it is also known as the "national color and heavenly fragrance".
Growth habit
Sex likes a warm, cool, dry, sunny environment. Like sunshine, but also resistant to half shade, cold, drought, weak alkali, avoid standing water, afraid of heat, afraid of direct sunlight. It is suitable for growing in a loose, deep, fertile, dry terrain, and a neutral sandy loam with good drainage. Poor growth in acidic or sticky soil.
Adequate sunlight is more beneficial to its growth, but it is not tolerant to the hot summer sun. Temperatures above 25°C will make the plants dormant. The optimum temperature for flowering is 17-20°C, but it must be treated with a low temperature of 1-10°C for 2-3 months before flowering. It can withstand a low temperature of -30℃ at least, but proper cold protection measures must be taken in winter in the northern cold zone to avoid freezing damage. The hot and humid weather in the south is extremely unfavorable to the growth of peony. Therefore, the cultivation of peony in the south requires specific environmental conditions to enjoy the wonderful peony flowers.
Peony seed planting method
1. Soak the seeds in water: Soak the seeds in hot water, the germination rate of the seeds will be much higher. Prepare a pot of warm water above 50℃ in advance, soak the peony seeds in it, and then keep the water temperature for 24 to 30 hours. Until the skin of the seed is degummed and swells after absorbing water.
2. Accompanying plant ash
Before sowing the peony, you can also treat the peony seeds a bit. In fact, plant ash is also a good tool for accelerating germination. Mix the soaked seeds in an appropriate amount of plant ash and live them into a thin mud. This can increase the germination rate of peony seeds, and also maximize the speed of germination.
3. Planting seeds: Collect the processed peony seeds, and then dig a 5 cm deep hole in the new pot soil. Then throw the seeds inside. After burying in soil, compact it by hand. Then place the potted plants in a cool and ventilated environment. Finally, water thoroughly to ensure the moisture of the soil. Wait for it to take root slowly, but it takes a long time to sprout and you need to wait patiently.
