Traditional style with an open ink reservoir, the ink needs constant attention so that is it not too dry, not too wet. In use, they are messy (although not as much as you might think) and maintenance intensive. This is compact model, and is one of the most popular because it combines lots of useful features in a small, easy to carry and easy to use package at a keen price. To start, the compact body houses an automatic return (8m only), 15m of line and a refillable sponge reservoir for the ink. The pin that holds the string is integral with the housing meaning there is no sharp point floating about and also has a spring to soften the blow when the auto-return is used. Access to both string and sponge is easy, refilling takes but seconds and recharging the spring return is as simple as can be. The ink tank seals tightly and the body has a rubber gasket to further prevent leaks.
