1. Soil selection for hydrangea cultivation
Mixed Modified Cultivation Soil (Choose one of three, for reference only.)
① 4 parts of leaf mulch soil, 3 parts of garden soil, 2 parts of river sand, 1 part of cake fertilizer;
② 4 parts of compost soil, 5 parts of sandy soil, 1 part of cake fertilizer;
③ 6 parts of leaf mulch soil, 3 parts of sand (or furnace ash), 1 part of cake fertilizer;
2. Fertilization method for hydrangea cultivation
Hydrangea likes fertilizer. During the growth period, a thin cake fertilizer should be applied every 15 days or so. In order to keep the pot soil often acidic, it can be combined with adding 0.2% ferrous sulfate when applying liquid fertilizer to turn it into alum fertilizer for watering. Adding 0.5% superphosphate soaking solution for 1 to 2 times during the pregnancy bud period can promote the blooming and bright colors.
3. Watering method for hydrangea cultivation
Hydrangea has larger leaves and requires more water. Water frequently in spring and summer to keep the pot soil moist; in the midsummer high temperature, water once in the morning and evening, and pay attention to proper shade; water less in winter, just keep the pot soil humidity; The pot soil is always kept in a moist state, especially in summer, and should be given sufficient moisture.
From May to August, in addition to meeting the water demand of the pot soil, water is sprayed on the leaf surface once a day. However, hydrangea has fleshy roots, so you should not water too much, because too much water can easily cause root rot. The weather gets colder after September, so you should gradually reduce the amount of watering to make the branches grow strong and dormant in winter.
4. Sunshine requirements for hydrangea cultivation
Hydrangea likes shade. After leaving the house in spring, it must be placed in a semi-shady environment for maintenance. In summer, it should be moved to a well-ventilated shade to prevent sunburn on the leaves. After September, the intensity of sunlight is gradually weakening. In order to promote the differentiation of flower buds, the flowerpot should be moved to a place with more light.
5. Temperature requirements for hydrangea cultivation
The suitable temperature for the growth of hydrangea is 18-30℃, and the temperature in winter is not lower than 5℃. Flower bud differentiation requires 6 to 8 weeks at 5 to 7°C. The temperature of 20°C can promote flowering, and maintaining 16°C after blooming can prolong the flowering period. But the high temperature makes the flowers fade quickly.
