Product description
What is Sterimar baby used for?
Relieving blocked, dry or irritated nasal passages in babies and young children, for example due to colds and flu, sinusitis or allergies such as hayfever. The spray is suitable for use from birth.
Sterimar baby nasal spray contains isotonic sea water that has been filtered and microbiologically controlled so that it is sterile. Isotonic means that the sea water has been diluted so that it contains the same concentration of salt as cells in the human body.
Sterimar baby spray uses a microdiffusion system to produce a gentle fine spray of sea water onto the lining of the nose. These fine droplets of sea water work by softening and loosening nasal mucus. This helps to clear the nasal passages, allowing the child to breathe more easily and making it easier for them to feed and sleep. It also helps to clear bacteria and viruses from the nasal passages, as well as irritants and allergens such as dust and pollen.
How do I use Sterimar baby?
1. Before you use the spray for the first time it needs to be primed by pressing the nozzle briefly until a fine spray is produced.
2. The child should be laid on their back with their head turned to one side before using the spray.
3. Gently insert the nozzle of the spray into the baby's nostril and press down on the top of the nozzle briefly. Allow the solution to drain out of the nostril; this will remove the mucus with it. Wipe the nose then repeat in the other nostril.
Sterimar baby can be used two to six times a day to clear a blocked nose, or more often if needed. It can be especially helpful to use the spray to clear a blocked nose before giving a feed and at bedtime.
After use the nozzle should be cleaned with soapy water, rinsed and dried.
Who should get medical advice before using Sterimar baby?
If your child has a nose injury or has recently had nasal surgery you should ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine.
What are the possible side effects of Sterimar baby?
This spray is not known to have any side effects.
Can I use Sterimar baby with other medicines?
If you need to use another nasal drop or spray at the same time as Sterimar baby, then you should use the Sterimar spray first, to avoid washing the other medicine out of the nose with the saline. Using Sterimar first will also cleanse the nasal passages, allowing the other nasal product to be more effective.
Other than this, saline nasal sprays are not known to affect other medicines.
