Product description
Perlite is a unique volcanic mineral that works best in soil media. When heated to 1700°F, it expands 13 times its original volume and weighs around 80-128 kg cubic meters.
Each particle of perlite contains many tiny air cells or bubbles, and also provides a very large area. The plane of each particle is made up of these many small holes. These air-bubbled surfaces help to lock in water and moisture, which aids root and stem growth. There is enough air in each grain of perlite for medium mixing and optimum air circulation.
The characteristics of perlite are suitable for seedling growth and planting medium, such as the following characteristics of perlite:
1. Improve ventilation and drainage.
2. Provide water and nutrients to plants at any time.
3. Inorganic and non-deteriorating.
4. Neutral, with a pH of 6.5 to 7.5.
5. Acts as an insulator to help reduce excessive temperature fluctuations.
6. Sterile, free from weeds and diseases.
7. Clean, odorless, light and safe to use.
Perlite is used in soil mixes (including soilless mediums) to improve aeration and modify the soil substrate, keeping it loose, well-draining, and defying compaction. A premium mix of one part loam, one part peat moss, and one part perlite is Optimum for container growing, enabling the pot to hold just enough water and oxygen.
