Plaster of Paris is widely used for so many craft projects. It can be used for mold making, mask making and ceramic figurines. Mix it with water, mold and once cured you can paint it with acrylic paint.
Mixing Instruction Guide:
- Cover your work area with a plastic or with newspapers. Prepare two mixing containers.
- The ideal ratio for a Plaster of Paris mixture is 2 parts Plaster of Paris powder to 1 part water.
- Measure both Plaster of Paris and water separately (2:1 ratio)
- Start adding the Plaster of Paris powder to the water in your mixing container by sprinkling the powder over the water.
- Gently mix Plaster of Paris mixture until it is smooth. Do not stir vigorously to avoid any air bubbles.
- Optional – For coloring add poster paint or acyrlic paint once the mixture has a smooth consistency. Continue mixing until the color is uniform.
- Let the mixture sit through for a minute before pouring into mold.
- To prevent clogging, do not throw Plaster of Paris into the drain. Any leftover mixture, let it harden, then throw it into a garbage can.
- Wearing mask is highly recommended
- Avoid getting the powder to the eyes and nose
- Plaster of Paris powder is extremely light and fine, thus easily dispersed through air
- Never mix plaster of Paris with your bare hands, Please use glove
- Do work with a pair of gloves while handling Plaster of Paris.
- Adult supervision when doing craft with childrens.
