In order for nitrification bacteria to thrive, ample and vigorous aeration is to be provided in order to promote the growth of nitrification bacteria. With proper aeration the bio media will rolls and collide with each other and therefore become self-cleaning when old and inefficient bacteria/biofim is knocked off the surface of bio media. On the other hand, if there is no aeration, the biofilter will become anaerobic and denitrification will occur. Depends on your design requirement, aeration is to be adjusted accordingly.

PLEASE BE NOTED THAT NOT TO FILL YOUR MBBR TANK MORE THAN 60% OF ITS VOLUME WITH K2/K3 BIO MEDIA. PLEASE ENSURE IT IS ADEQUATELY AERATED!! AS THE BACTERIA STARTS TO COLONIZED THE BIO MEDIA, IT WIL SINK SLIGHTLY MORE AND BECOME EASIER TO ROLLS AND COLLIDE, AND THEREFORE WORK PERFECTLY AS IT SHOULD HAVE. YOUR CHOSEN TANK'S HEIGHT SHOULD BE ABOUT 2 TIMES THE DIAMETER. SQUARE AND FLAT SHALLOW TANK IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO BE USED.
